about
These are tough times for everybody, but especially so for friends / family in the world of live music. Which is why I recorded a version of the folk classic 'Hard Times...' along with old pals Connie Kaldor, James Keelaghan, and Shari Ulrich.
The recording was created to raise awareness of the dire forecasts for live performance in a post-COVID world and to generate some $$ for Unison Benevolent Fund -- a Canadian charity created to help performers, venues, and crew facing this devastating crisis. Unison has experienced a 3500% increase in calls for help since the pandemic hit and ours will be the last industry allowed back to work, so we have months ahead with virtually no income.
Everyone who worked on this project donated their time and services and all proceeds from the sale of this track will go to Unison Benevolent Fund. If you'd like to donate to them directly, visit their site at www.UnisonFund.ca or text 'Unison' to 45678.
lyrics
LYRICS:
Let us pause in life's pleasures and count its many tears,
While we all sup sorrow with the poor;
There's a song that will linger forever in our ears;
Oh! Hard times come again no more.
Chorus:
'Tis the song, the sigh of the weary,
Hard Times, hard times, come again no more.
Many days you have lingered around my cabin door;
Oh! Hard times come again no more.
While we seek mirth and beauty and music light and gay,
There are frail forms fainting at the door;
Though their voices are silent, their pleading looks will say
Oh! Hard times come again no more.
Chorus
There's a pale drooping maiden who toils her life away,
With a worn heart whose better days are o'er:
Though her voice would be merry, 'tis sighing all the day,
Oh! Hard times come again no more.
Chorus
'Tis a sigh that is wafted across the troubled wave,
'Tis a wail that is heard upon the shore
'Tis a dirge that is murmured around the lowly grave
Oh! Hard times come again no more.
Chorus

Bill Bournes music is a treasure- I have quite a few of his recordings in my library and they are amazing in both the variety of styles and the proficiency of playing.
This 30 year old recording is a stellar example of Bournes talent & his willingness to stretch the application of his consider -able abilities into unexpected territory.
In 1990 at the 1st radio sta. I worked at "Bourne & Mcleod" was new-haven't seen it since- finding it again on Bandcamp was such a bonus! setnetradio
